It was founded by local resident Bev Bast and it focuses on special needs kids and the camping experience. The Peacekeepers Adventure Camp is in Belmont and this week the Strathroy Lions Club as they do each year donated $1100 to the Camp covering two full weeks for some campers. President and Founder of the Camp Bev Bast says she started the camp 16 years ago because there was a need for youth between 12 and 21 with special needs that did not have a place to go in the summer. She says she’s very appreciative for the Strathroy Lions Club. The Camp’s annual Spaghetti Dinner and Auction also goes this Saturday at the Strathroy Community Christian School and for tickets and information you can visit the camp online or call 519-245-5222.

Another shining example of a local group seeing need in the community and stepping up to help out. Recently, the Strathroy Lions Club donated $5000 to the Strathroy Salvation Army. Lions member and Bingo Chairperson Rick Copp says the Salvation Army was a very good choice for a recipient. Copp says this is the very first time the Bingo account did well enough to allow for a sizeable donation back into the community and they felt this was the right thing to do.
Community coming together. Thanks to donations from Municipal staff, Rotary Club, Mt. Brydges Firefighters, Strathroy Lions and Mt. Brydges Lions, they were able to upgrade a Stove, Refrigerator and Dishwasher for the Women’s Rural Resource Centre.

Helping out with the Salvation Army Food Bank is what the intention was and the Strathroy Lions Club got the job done recently with a $1000 donation to the Food Bank. Major Roland Shea says the donation is always appreciated and the Christmas season is busy for them. Lions President Stuart Kettlewell says they are here in the community to serve and this donation is always the right thing to do.
